Ministries
Please accept our invitation to join in the fellowship and community of the Sunday School class of your choice. Join with others in the journey to grow in knowledge and understanding of our Christian faith and in a Christian lifestyle.
Join with us as we strive to be faithful to the journey in answer to God's call through Christ.
A Sunday School greeter is available each Sunday morning in the vestibule of Building B
to assist you in visiting any of our classes.
Infants through five-year-olds are provided a nurturing and caring environment during the Sunday School time and in extended session at worship time. Activities are designed to develop a positive concept of self and church through a knowledge of God's world and God's people surrounding the preschooler. A creative learning environment is provided through Bible stories, music and craft activities.
Grades K-5
Children in the elementary division gain greater experience in applying the teachings of the Bible to their own lives. Activities are designed to help these children develop an understanding of the Christian faith as expressed in Bible stories, in the life and work of the church and in personal service.
Jr. High & High School
Noffsinger Youth Building (Bldg. C)
High School – Upstairs
Middle School – Downstairs
Director: Diane Lipsett and Richard Vinson
Dynamic Biblical teaching and the occasional mission adventure challenge youth to grow in their relationship with God. More than any time during the week’s youth program Sunday school is a focused time of Bible study. In 2007-2008 the youth surveyed the Old and New Testaments. In 2008-09, we will follow the lectionary scriptures (the ones we use in Sunday morning worship) and see what discuss what it means to live like Christ. So come prepared with Bible in hand to learn about what God can do in you and this world.
The adult division spans the age groupings from young adults to median adults and senior adults. Diversity in class studies characterizes the adult division with the underlying vision to meet the spiritual needs and challenges of the changing years of adult life. Class descriptions are as follows:
Agape

This class follows the CBF Formation literature series and is a highly
interactive community exploring scripture with a focus on relativity to
current issues.

Tom Elmore, John Harrison
Open to all adults, the class is discussion-oriented and centered on
keeping faith viable in the 21st Century. Topics include classical
and contemporary theology, Protestant and Baptist traditions, world
religions and worldviews, and current issues of interest and concern
in our society. Speakers are often invited to lead and participate
in discussion topics.

The Faith In Action class does Bible and book studies in a discussion
format. Its members cover a wide range of ages. Members of this class
have been involved in a local community development group called
CHANGE, as well as other ministries in the area.
Room A166
Teachers: Bettye Briggs, Dean Clifford, Helen Webb
The Friendship class is a Ladies’ Class which uses the Smyth &
Helwys Formations literature. Teaching responsibilities are shared by
three class members. Emphasis is on the relevance of the lesson topic
to our church and to individual members. A variety of teaching methods
are used. Questions and discussion are always encouraged. This small class
(average attendance of about 11) enjoys caring for its members as well
as others. Although some of the members are actively employed, most are
retired and involved in a variety of volunteer activities, travel and
hobbies. New members are welcomed with open arms.
When Dean teaches, the lesson starts at 9:45 as she tries to leave
for choir at 10:30. Most members get to class by 9:30. We want time to
visit and time for the lesson so we come early.
Mary Martha
Room A174
Teacher: Susan Borwick
Known for its well organized, member-initiated caring for one another
and its activist involvement in meeting the needs of others, the
Mary-Martha Class challenges old and new members to live out the love
we share in relationship with God. An energetic class of around 50
senior and other-aged women who strive to live out the models of both
Mary and Martha, we seek Jesus’ guidance to grow spiritually and live
out Jesus’ teachings and transforming love in our actions.
Emphasizing Bible study (The Smyth and Helwys Formations series is the jumping-off point),
we discuss original biblical contexts and their applications today.
Class activities lovingly address needs in our faith community, Winston-Salem, and the world.
Room A161
Teacher: Grover "Chip" Mims
We are a mix of couples and singles, ages 55 and counting. However, we
won’t hold youth against you if you choose to join us. We are a Bible
centered Sunday School Class using the Formations literature as our
base for interesting and lively discussion. The Pilgrimage Class is
well known for its great pot-luck luncheons after Church starring the
“mystery meat” and great desserts. We have spun off a poetry reading
group which meets periodically throughout the year.
Room A164
Teachers: Bill Amos, Maurice Briggs, Dewey Hobbs, Wiley Guthrie,
and Hoyt Rutledge
A class for men ages 60+. The Formations series from Smyth
and Helwys Publishing, Inc.
is used for class lessons in a presentation and discussion
format.
