CHANCEL CHOIR
The Knollwood Chancel Choir is a forty-five-voice ensemble of adult singers. Since its beginning in 1957 the Chancel Choir has maintained high standards of performance of the sacred choral repertoire.
The primary responsibility of this choir is to provide musical leadership in worship each Sunday. In addition, the group sings in the Christmas Festival in December and frequently presents a choral service in the spring. Weekly rehearsals are scheduled each Wednesday, 7:15-8:45 p.m., except for the month of August. The choir rehearsal room is on the second floor of the Christian Education building (Building B) at the top of the main (north end) stairway.
The Chancel Choir sings a variety of anthem literature for worship—classics of the historic periods, spirituals, hymn arrangements, and present-day choral music from the pens of such composers as Beck, Borwick, Clausen, Distler, Durufle, Hayes, Marshall, Pelz, Rutter, Scott, Thompson, Wilberg, Wood and others.
The choral presentations of major works with orchestra have included Messiah, The Creation, Elijah, Vivaldi's Gloria, Rutter's Gloria, Fauré's Requiem, Rutter's Requiem, Schubert's Mass, Rene Clausen's A New Creation, and Bach cantatas.
Auditions are not required. Interested singers are encouraged to contact our Minister of Music, Ken Wilson.
