THE KNOLLWOOD YOUTH CHOIR

The Knollwood Youth Choir provides Knollwood's middle and high school youth the opportunity to share their faith in song. The group rehearses each Sunday afternoon, 4:45-5:45, September - June. The group is directed by Minister of Music Ken Wilson, accompanied by organist Susan Orgain; there are three adult sectional leaders—Susan Edge, Kevin Owen and Rachel Wiggins. The choir sings monthly for morning worship, sings sacred concerts in area churches, tours, and presents musical dramas. Past dramatic productions include A Cotton Patch Gospel, Godspell, Celebrate Life, and Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. A revival of Godspell is planned for a February 19-21, 2010 production.
For a number of years the Knollwood Youth Choir and youth handbell choirs have made tours to different parts of the country, singing in churches, hospitals, senior adult facilities, prisons and even for a major league baseball game. These tours have taken the choir to New Orleans, Atlanta, Birmingham, Jackson, Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, Boston, New York City, Washington D.C., Charleston, and Jacksonville, Florida.
In past years the choir has participated in several YouthCue Choir Festivals (www.youthcue.org). As part of the festivals Knollwood youth joined with 3o0 other singers in a concert at the National Cathedral, sang the national anthem at a Baltimore Oriels game and recorded a CD with a symphony orchestra. In addition to the choirs, organist Susan Orgain regularly coaches singers and instrumentalists in the preparation of small group selections for worship.
