Handbells
Knollwood organist Susan Orgain gives leadership to a handbell program that offers ministry opportunities for a wide variety of age groups. The youngest of the five ensembles, Choir Chimes, provides the opportunity for 2nd and 3rd graders to learn basic ringing techniques as well as beginning music reading skills. These principles are reinforced and taken to the next level in Children's Bells for 4th and 5th graders. Middle School and High School bell groups enjoy more challenging music, while adults in Chancel Bells spread to five full octaves of bell ringing. Each of the bell groups rings regularly for worship, usually once a month. Several times a year multiple choirs are combined for massed ringing in worship. The combined groups are an important part of the Christmas Festival each December.
Knollwood presently owns both a five-octave set and a three octave set of Malmark handbells, a three-octave set of Schulermich handbells, and a four-octave set of Malmark hand chimes.
