INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS
Project Ruth – Bucharest, Romania (www.projectruth.ro)
Project Ruth is TWO mission ministries in one: The first is the Ruth Centre for children. The second is the Gypsy Smith School for pastors. For hundreds of years Gypsies have been living on the margins of society and are still the victims of persecution and suffering. Project Ruth (Ruth Centre AND Gypsy Smith School) were both started by Providence Baptist Church in Bucharest, Romania following the collapse of communism as a response to the desperate situation of the poorest of the poor in Eastern Europe. The Ruth Center is an accredited private day school for poor and disadvantaged children offering Grades 1 – 8. In September 2008 there are almost 300 children on roll. The Gypsy Smith School is a Bible and leadership school for Gypsy men who serve as bi/tri-vocational pastors in Romanian churches. It occurs four times a year and is taught by a global volunteer faculty (Ken Meyers is the faculty coordinator).
ProVISION Asia – Bangalore India (www.provisionasia.org)
This transformational ministry in Bangalore, India focuses on physically challenged persons. By creating crafts jobs, proVISION offers a source of income to help feed the families of their clients. proVISION Asia also provides assistance with prostheses, support for a local church, and a liaison with the Baptist hospital there. A recent innovation is the provision of hundreds of wheelchairs, many repaired or assembled by volunteers at a local prison as a part of their prison ministry and the addition of a state-of-the-art mammogram machine at Baptist Hospital. Our gifts will be multiplied by love, grace, and sacrifice.
Africa Exchange – Nairobi, Kenya (www.africaexchange.org)
KBC members have made two mission trips to this ministry headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Working with local, national, and international groups, Sam and Melody Harrell have developed creative projects such as building foot bridges across rivers, building health care facilities, and constructing child development centers in each province of Kenya, using the brick-making apparatus that KBC’s 2004 International Missions offering provided. As you prepare your list for Christmas giving, please remember God’s ministries throughout the world which are supported through these three ministries. ~The Missions Committee
