The Knollwood Chancel Choir is a forty-five-voice ensemble of adult singers.
Since its beginning in 1957 the Chancel Choir has maintained high standards
of performance of the sacred choral repertoire.
The primary responsibility of this choir is to provide musical leadership
in worship each Sunday at the 10:55 service. In addition, the group sings
several choral programs each year. The choir rehearses weekly, 7:00-8:30
p.m. on Wednesdays in the choir room, September-May. (The choir room is
located on the second floor of the Christian Education building, Building
B, and is just a the top of the main stairway.) The choir recesses for
several weeks in the summer.
The Chancel Choir sings a variety of anthem literature for worship, ranging
from the classics of the historic periods, to spirituals, to hymn arrangements,
to present-day choral music from the pens of such composers as Beck, Clausen,
Distler, Durufle, Hayes, Marshall, Pelz, Rutter, Scott, Sleeth, Thompson,
Wilberg, Wood, and others.
The choral presentations of major works with orchestra have included Messiah,
The Creation, Elijah, Vivaldi Gloria, Rutter Gloria, Fauré Requiem,
Rutter Requiem, Schubert Mass, Bach cantatas, Rene Clausen A New Creation.
Auditions are not required. Interested singers are encouraged to contact
Ken Wilson.
