The mountains are calling and we're planning to answer! Grab your backpack, some hiking shoes, and your adventurous spirit for a weekend spent in Valle Crucis, NC.
Our high school aged folks will spend the weekend amongst the trees and hills of the Appalachians outside of Valle Crucis and get into some adventures in and around Banner Elk. What kind of adventures you ask?
Our plan will be to leave on Friday afternoon once school is out (around 5pm) and return Sunday afternoon. However, we also know that mid-fall is a busy time for high schoolers on Friday. So, if folks need to come upon Saturday morning that is certainly welcome. If enough folks are coming up on Saturday, we'll work on group transportation or a carpool arrangement. Everyone will return at the same time on Sunday.
We're staying at a multi-building rental located on a 92-acre farm in Elk Valley, NC, about 10 minutes outside Valle Crucis/Banner Elk. The farm sits nestled in a small valley and has both a large upper house and renovated barn-turned-residence that each sleep over a dozen folks. Guys and male chaperones will share one building while girls and female chaperones will share another.
We'll enjoy the fresh mountain air and outdoor activities around us, including halfcourt basketball, table games like ping pong and pool, and an outdoor firepit stocked with plenty of wood for a nightly bonfire. While we'll spend most of our time there, we will also plan an outing or two with our group to some of the activities in the surrounding area including a short hike off the Blue Ridge Parkway and rides on the Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster.
This is going to be an outstanding weekend and we are hopeful all our high school friends will join in. Cost for the weekend will be $70 and covers everything from the time we leave to when we return, including meals. We never want cost to be a deterrent from someone participating in a KBC.ym event, so financial assistance is available upon request.
