This winter, Knollwood is opening its doors to our unhoused neighbors. In partnership with The Dwelling, and alongside other congregations across the city, Knollwood will host a temporary overflow shelter for up to 20 men each night for the winter months.
After the Bethesda Center closed in October, our city lost about 100 shelter beds heading into the coldest months of the year. The Dwelling provides trained overnight staff, meals, and transportation, and Knollwood provides the space and hospitality. It’s one way we’re living out our call to love and live like Jesus.
The shelter does not depend on church volunteers, but we are currently planning formal opportunities for members to volunteer as a Knollwood Shelter Host, provide breakfast bags, serve or prepare a meal, or give financially.
