In the story of Lazarus, Jesus’ tears reveal that God’s not showing up as expected (John 11:6, 21, 32) is as costly to God as it is to us. Yet thank God, the tears are not all there is. Besides his tears, Jesus offers the hope of resurrection to a new kind of life in the face of every death.
